Do I need to see a child psychiatrist for my child?

Child and adolescent psychiatrist, specifically deal with children and adolescents. They have expertise in providing diagnostic evaluations and recommendations from a developmental perspective.

Educating parents about child issues and behaviors is essential part of the evaluation process. However, in case one parent is unavailable or unwilling, the other parent can attend the session, as home management and parenting skills are a part of the intervention in children.

Assure your child that this doctor evaluates a lot of children and would be guiding them in dealing with their school, academic and peer related issues.

Forcing the child is not required, in many cases the first session could involve only the parents and specific suggestions would be given to the parents on how to introduce the child in the coming sessions.

Informing the school could be beneficial in obtaining school support to implement appropriate classroom accommodations.

 

There could be underlying issues/conditions which need to be identified and address reduce behavioral issues. Not all behaviors exhibited by children is intentional.
